Ryo Goto's violin is the famous 1715 Stradivarius.
In 2009-2010 the Martin School sponsored eight events, including a concert by the award-winning New York-based jazz fusion band Spyro Gyra, the 51st Society of Illustrators exhibition, and a screening of Stark Love, a silent film about Appalachia. "The film was found in an archives in France. There's only one copy of it in the United States now," DeAngelis says. The film was shown at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Bristol and children of the Appalachian actors were invited to the screening.
The 2010-2011 schedule has not been finalized, but already includes 22 events, from exhibitions to performances, as well as related lectures and the Southern Circuit Independent Filmmakers Tour. "We really are trying to represent all the arts, with more events of interest to broader audiences," DeAngelis notes. Programming will include performances by Anthony Zerbe, Heather Woodbury, and the Aquila Theatre, a residency with dancer Daniel Charon, several guest speakers, and art and cultural exhibitions.
