Jesse Graves
Dr. Jesse Graves, an associate professor in East Tennessee State University's Department of Literature and Language, has been inducted into the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame.
Graves will be honored for his poetry by the Friends of Literacy at its 12th annual awards luncheon in Knoxville.
When notified of his inclusion in the Hall of Fame, Graves said, "I feel honored to be recognized by an organization that supports the great cause of adult literacy. Some of my mentors and favorite writers have been elected into the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame, and I am happy, and humbled, to be joining them."
Previous inductees include Cormac McCarthy, Nikki Giovanni and Quentin Tarantino.
Graves, the ETSU Poet-in-Residence, is the author of two books of poems, editor of several volumes of poetry and scholarship, including the forthcoming "Jeff Daniel Marion: Poet on the Holston." His work was recently featured on American Public Media's "The Writers' Almanac, with Garrison Keillor."
Friends of Literacy's literature says the organization "supports the delivery of free high quality literacy and adult education classes in Knox County for adults who are inadequately educated for the challenges of daily life." The group's goal is the creation of "better workers, parents and citizens" through literacy.
