National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu announced that the International Storytelling Center is one of 919 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant.
ISC is recommended for a $15,000 grant to support Storytelling Live!, ISC's Teller-in-Residence Program, which features 26 nationally-known storytellers in a May through October program.
NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, "I'm pleased to be able to share the news of our support through Art Works, including the award to the International Storytelling Center. The arts foster value, connection, creativity and innovation for the American people, and these recommended grants demonstrate those attributes and affirm that the arts are part of our everyday lives."
Kiran Singh Sirah, executive director for ISC said: "Our seasonal Storytelling Live! series is quickly becoming as well-known as our signature event, the National Storytelling Festival. This year, over 11,000 people participated in Storytelling Live! programs, including more than 1,400 children. We're proud to receive this recognition from the nation's leading arts agency. The award will help us expand in meaningful ways and build on our success in our region, which is already the world center for the art of storytelling."
Art Works grants support the creation of art, public engagement with art, lifelong learning in the arts, and enhancement of the livability of communities through the arts.
