Sensedance Celebration Features Kingsport Native

December 1, 2011

Sensedance celebrated 20 years as an ensemble with a mixed program at Manhattan Movement and Arts Center in November 2011. Several pieces featured Kingsport, Tenn. native Erin Ginn.

The company, directed by Henning Rubsam, was "created in the hope that through the senses we can all meet." The program was a collection of choreography by Rubsam, including three premieres, and an excerpt from a documentary film made by Greg Vander Veer during a tour to Trujillo.

Excerpts from reviews:

.... Erin Ginn performed with depth and pliability, looking sleek in a navy unitard with her back muscles exposed and her leg counting out time like a human clock in a solo entitled "Innocence." - Eye on Dance

.... Erin Ginn was captivating in the solo "Innocence." Alone in a spotlight on the deep-blue stage, she hardly moves from her mark during this piece, set to a song by Ron Mazurek. She speaks to us with the language of the body, pliant and coolly expressive. - Oberson's Grove

.... "Half-Life" was the most complete piece featuring vibrant and brave dancing from four dancers [including] Ginn. - Eye on Dance

.... Joined by Temple Kemezis, the quartet of dancers [in "Half-Life"] push their energy to the limits; the work ends as the dancers break down. - Oberson's Grove
