ABINGDON, Va. - William King Museum of Art, Abingdon, Virginia, welcomes East Tennessee native and educator Alice Salyer as their new instructor for the Digital Lab, part of William King’s educational Art Lab.
Salyer is a graduate of East Tennessee State University’s MFA program with an emphasis in Graphic Design. She returned to school after a career as an advertising art director to explore new career and artistic possibilities. Her broad, multi-faceted practice includes digital and traditional methods, exploring a variety of subjects.
The Digital Lab, as part of William King’s Art Lab, is a center for anyone in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee to access, learn and use digital tools for art, design and life.
The Digital Lab provides workshops and training for all experience levels in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro. Facilities include a computer lab with both Mac and Dell computers, Canon Rebel digital cameras, medium and large format Epson inkjet printers, a flatbed scanner, a Dremel laser cutter and 3D printer. The Digital Lab offers open lab hours for the community to work independently on digital projects, personal printing services, 3D printing services and laser cutting later this year. Educational exhibitions and programming on digital art and design are also offered. These classes offer the community the opportunity to develop their digital and Adobe Creative Cloud skills.
The Adobe Creative Cloud programs are the industry standard for the commercial art and visualization industry. Competency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro provides a foundation for careers in numerous competitive fields. The Adobe programs are used world-wide to bring ideas and inspiration to life. Skills in the Adobe programs offer numerous advantages to students and professionals in many fields including marketing & advertising, photography, design, entertainment, education, media production, information technology, healthcare, retail, foodservice, real estate, entrepreneurs and more.
Funding for the Digital Lab at William King Museum’s Art Lab has been provided by the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission, USDA Rural Development and the Go Virginia Foundation. Art Lab as a whole has been made possible by generous funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission, Educational Foundation of America, Mary Morton Parsons Foundation, The Marietta McNeil Morgan & Samuel Tate Morgan, Jr. Trust, the Town of Abingdon, Washington County, and by many local donors.
The museum is open seven days a week: Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the museum is free.
