“Scrooge! The Musical” transforms the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge from Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” in a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night. Theatre Bristol announces a cast of 33 who bring the transforming spirit of Christmas, live on stage to Paramount Bristol, in six performances this November and December, with tickets on sale now.
Leslie Bricusse, composer of music for “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” “Doctor Dolittle,” “Jekyll & Hyde,” as well as the love theme from Superman, “Can You Read My Mind?” and many others, is the writer, composer and lyricist of “Scrooge! The Musical.”
This heartwarming and entertaining stage production has played to many Theatre Bristol sold-out houses over the years. It features Dickensian characters and rousing music, such as “Thank You Very Much,” “December the Twenty-Fifth,” and “Father Christmas,” the moving “Love While You Can,” “A Better Day,” “Happiness,” and “A Beautiful Life,” and humorous “I Hate People” and “The Minister’s Cat,” and much more.
Miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, played by Theatre Bristol veteran actor Chris McVey, is visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley played by Mike Todd and the Ghosts of Christmas Past by Hannah Stam, Christmas Present by Mike Locke and Christmas Future by Joseph Stam.
Scrooge’s clerk, Bob Cratchit, is played by Jim Altman III and Bob’s youngest son, Tiny Tim, is a role shared by Katie Collea and Reese Davis. Madeleine Bullen is Mrs. Cratchit, the mother of five, with Erin Solley as Martha, Bentley Forinash as Peter, Kate Zeiler as Belinda and Emma Cornett as Kathy.
Isaac Alford doubles as Young Ebenezer and Harry, and Baleigh McKeehan as Isabel and Helen. Reece Hilt plays Ebby, a very young Scrooge, and Lucy Helvey plays his sister, Jenny.
Young Scrooge’s boss, Mr. Fezziwig, is played by David Alford and Mrs. Fezziwig by Susan McNabb. Joseph Stam undertakes Dick Wilkins and Topper, Young Scrooge’s and nephew Harry’s best friends.
In debt to Scrooge are Dan Gray as Tom Jenkins, Annie Barranco as Bess, Elijah Bullen as Bissett the Butcher, Deklan Thomas as Mr. Pringle, Christina Dalton as Mrs. Pringle, Susan McNabb as Mrs. Dilber, Libby Street as Miss Dilber, David Alford as the Wine Merchant, Richard Albright as Miller and the Punch and Judy Puppeteer and Phoebe Bullen as a Beggar Woman.
Tony DeVault and Mike Todd are philanthropists Hugo Harty and Jocelyn Jollygoode. The London street urchins include Kaden Walls, Sylas Lawson, James Bullen, Anna Theresa Bullen, Abby Cheek and Lily Frazier.
Directing and choreographing the holiday favorite and cast of 33 from around the region is Theatre Bristol veteran, Camille Gray, who made her own theater debut in the 2003 production and played Christmas Past in more recent versions. She has since gained directing credits for “The Diary of Anne Frank,” “Twelfth Night,” “Julius Caesar” and “Godspell,” and choreography credits for Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” “Oklahoma!,” “Into the Woods” and “The Wizard of Oz.” She is supported by the creative team of music director Robert Greene, stage manager Nicole Intagliata, scenic designer Luke Gray, costume designer Adriel Slaughter, props artisan Rebecca Ryan, special effects designer and tech director Albert Tester, along with Theatre Bristol crew and producer Samantha Gray.
“Scrooge! The Musical” runs Nov. 22, 23 and 24 and Dec. 6, 7 and 8 on the Paramount Center for the Arts stage, Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 5:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults plus processing fees and $12 for seniors and students plus processing fees, and are available at www.ParamountBristol.org.
