Various Organizations Net Pinnacle Awards

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- The Northeast Tennessee Tourism Association announced winners of the 11th annual Pinnacle Awards luncheon on May 7 at the MeadowView Marriott Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn.

Commissioner Susan Whitaker, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, presented special remarks on "Sustainable Tourism" and the impact of tourism in our region.

The Pinnacle Awards program pays tribute to individuals, businesses and organizations for exemplary quality and performance in tourism development and promotion.

The following arts-related winnerswere announced:

  • Special Events Pinnacle Winner: Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion
  • Special Projects: Receiving Pinnacle Awards were the Bristol Herald Courier for its publication, "The Straight & Narrow on The Crooked Road," showcasing Virginia's Heritage Music Trail; and The Center for Appalachian Studies & Services, ETSU & Reece Museum, for a new interactive kiosk and exhibition entitled "The History of Country Music in the Tri-Cities." The Bristol Convention & Visitors Bureau (BCVB) received a Pinnacle for its new Self- Guided Historical Bristol Downtown Audio Walking Tour. Highlights include the Country Music Mural, Classic Recording Studio, Paramount Center for the Arts, Birthplace of Country Music monument, and the proposed Birthplace of Country Music Museum & Cultural Heritage Center.
  • Public Relations: The BCVB also won a Pinnacle for "Heritage, Culture, Community and Commerce - Support Bristol Tourism."
  • Printed Advertising & Promotions: Pinnacle winners included Barter Theatre's Marketing Campaign for its production of "Jimmie Rodgers: America's Blue Yodeler" and a brochure by SunSyne Graphics for Storytelling Tours by Positive Solutions. Merit Award Winners were the Virginia Highlands Festival's 2007 marketing campaign, "Live the History," and Kingsport Convention & Visitors Bureau's 2007 Downtown Kingsport Concert Series.
  • Multi-Media Advertising & Promotions: Barter Theatre's Website redesign and WJHL-TV's "Grassroutes" featuring the Virginia Highlands Festival, Barter Theatre, Star Museum, and other attractions.
