The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail unveiled its first mobile app Thursday, May 29, at the Historic Fries Theatre in Fries, Virginia. The app features venue and event listings for the organization’s 10 major venues, as well as over 50 affiliated venues, jams, and festivals along The Crooked Road. Additionally, the app is a resource for locating local dining and lodging options. Users of the app can select their destination venues, and the app will suggest local restaurants and lodging options along the way.
“This app will fundamentally change how visitors interact with and explore The Crooked Road,” said Tyler Hughes, executive director of The Crooked Road. “For more than 20 years, we have marketed the region as a world-class destination for traditional music. The app gives visitors an up-to-date resource to help travel the back roads and discover what makes Southwest Virginia so unique.”
The Crooked Road app is the center of information on traditional music events, as well as local dining and lodging options in Southwest Virginia. Likewise, the app features digital challenges for fans of The Crooked Road. The app offers a digital passport, allowing users to collect digital stamps as they visit major venues. As visitors visit venues and complete challenges, they become eligible for prizes.
“We are also excited to have a concrete way to track visitation across the region,” Hughes said. “This will provide us and the communities we service some much needed and valuable data to better understand how to use our marketing resources.”
The Crooked Road app is free to download on the Apple App Store for iOS, the Google Play store, and other major app stores. The Crooked Road app is sponsored by the Virginia Tourism Corporation. The app was designed by Visit Widget LLC.
