William King Museum nominated for national medal

October 31, 2012

The William King Museum has been nominated for the 2012 National Medal for Museum Service from the Institute of Museum and Library Services by Sen. Mark Warner.

The medal is the highest honor conferred on museums and libraries for service to the community. Annually, five libraries and five museums receive the award. The winners are selected by the Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services after an open nomination process and based on the recommendation of the National Museum and Library Services Board.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The Institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.

The Institute works at the national level and in coordination with state and local organizations to sustain heritage, culture and knowledge; enhance learning and innovation; and support professional development.
