ABINGDON, VA - William King Museum of Art announces the Decorative Arts Trust has awarded the museum a two-year post graduate fellowship around its Cultural Heritage Project. With matching funds from the Henry Luce Foundation, the fellowship will advance the project’s research and take its records online for global access. Emory & Henry College has provided additional support in the form of housing.
Through an application process, the museum has selected James Andrew Walton as its Decorative Arts Trust Digital Humanities Fellow.
Walton, who is a native of Roanoke, Virginia, has an undergraduate degree in history and anthropology from Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, and a graduate degree in Material Culture and Public Humanities from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. The goal of the Cultural Heritage Project is to provide, through its research, exhibitions, collections, and publications, a full and accurate appreciation for the decorative arts legacy of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
The museum is open seven days a week: Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
