Hillbilly Hippies

Community coffee house held

May 4, 2024   |   7 pm @ Southwest Virginia Museum

The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park hosts its First Saturday Community Coffee House Saturday, May 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. The Hillbilly Hippies will serve as the featured host for this month’s Coffee House.

The Hillbilly Hippies are a mountain music string band that is very proud of their Appalachian roots. They perform a wide variety of music and have performed at several local venues in the area. Members include Dawn Bays on fiddle, Mary Lou Carter on banjo, Larry Mullins on guitar, Les Bailey on bass and Joey O’Quinn on banjo. The Hillbilly Hippies have a wonderful way of mixing old-time tunes, '70s soft rock, country ballads, bluegrass standards and folk songs into a unique show.

The First Saturday Community Coffee House is an open-mic event and is open to all family-friendly performers. All interested musicians, storytellers, and poets should arrive by 6:30 p.m. for sign-up and scheduling. Admission is free to this program. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
