Create Appalachia extends art call for exhibit

"Enigmatic Encounters: Hidden in Plain Sight" seeks to celebrate the diversity of the mythical and imagined. Explore the corners of your creativity and help others see what’s hidden in plain sight. Join Create Appalachiain this exploration and let your art reveal what you can see but others might miss. Art submitted should be by artists residing in or connected to Central Appalachia.

The deadline for submissions is extended to Sept. 8. The entry fee is $30 for up to 3 works. Multiple three-work entries are allowed. Works must be by an artist from the region (living here or from here living elsewhere) or must take the region as its subject matter. Works may be submitted in most forms of media. These include traditional paintings, illustration, sculpture, mixed media, and installations; digital and video including short film, video,animation, game art, digital illustration, graphic design, photography, and 3D print; fiber art including fiber creations, quilting, embroideryand more. "Hidden in Plain Sight" runs from Sept. 18to Jan. 9, 2026. An artist reception is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 8 from 6-7:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be served. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

Create Appalachia's gallery is at 225 W Center Street, Kingsport, Tennessee. The building is open weekdays from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m., except on Federal holidays. There is free parking in the Shelby Street garage, along Center Street in front of the building, and on Clay Street.
