Dragonfly offers October events

October 2–24, 2026 @ Dragonfly Book Bar

BRISTOL, TN-VA – Dragonfly Book Bar is offering a wide variety of events throughout October, from their monthly programs to a variety of one-off happenings. Patrons are invited to check out the full schedule on Dragonfly’s website and make plans to enjoy all they have to offer.

“Every month Dragonfly features several programs for our community, but October is particularly busy,” says Rene Rodgers. “Two of our events – the Local Author Showcase and Hurricane Helene-themed poetry reading – will be of particular interest to folks as they shine a spotlight on creative voices in our region.”

October events at Dragonfly Book Bar include:

• Friday, Oct.2, 5–8 p.m. – First Friday: Art D’Vine participating venue, featuring 25% off the works of artists Anita Morrell, Nina Rizzo, and Ginny Versteegen
• Saturday, Oct.3, 2–4:30 p.m. – Local Author Showcase & Social with Alex Gordon (romantasy), Laurie Herlich (cozy mysteries), Felicia Mitchell (poetry), and Annie Parsons (children’s literature and illustration); authors talk about and read from their books, answer audience questions, and have books for sale and signing
• Sunday, Oct.4, 2–5 p.m. – Crafty Afternoon: Bring your crafting projects and hang out at the bookstore
• Thursday, Oct.8, 5–6 p.m. – The Novel in Letters Reading Group: Meet Me at the Museum by Anne Youngson (led by King University professor Dr. Karen Shaw)
• Saturday, Oct.10, 12-7 p.m. – Dragonfly Book Bar booth at the TriPride Festival in Cumberland Square Park
• Monday, Oct.12, 5:30–6:30 p.m. – Dragonfly Book Club: The Odyssey translated by Emily Wilson
• Saturday, Oct.17, 3–5 p.m. – Writers’ Gathering: Engage in creative writing exercises, bring samples of your work or ideas for future work, and get feedback and support from other writers
• Saturday, Oct.17, 5:30–7:30 p.m. – Books & Guitars: Release & Signing with author Daniel Rice and his novel, "Young But Free," along with singer/songwriter Roger Ramsey
• Friday, Oct.23, 5–8 p.m. – Games & Puzzles Night: Bring your own games or use some of Dragonfly’s
• Saturday, Oct.24, 2–4 p.m. – Poetry Afternoon: Writers from Had I a Dove: Appalachian Poets on the Helene Flood, featuring Wally Smith, Bristol’s own David Winship, Eleanor Hjemmet with accompanist Tom Antonucci, Ann Shurgin, and Hilda Downer; proceeds from Had I a Dove sales benefit the Helene Flood Relief Fund
• Saturday, Oct.24, 5:30–7:30 p.m. – Halloween-themed Sip & Paint Evening with Jordan Glover Creations

“As the days get cooler and darker, the bookstore is the perfect place to hang out, enjoy some really fun experiences, and build community,” says Sara Beth Hitt. “We hope that folks will mark their calendars to join us throughout the month.”
