Johnson City Public Library Throws Block Party to Kick Off Summer Reading Program

June 3–28, 2024 @ Johnson City Public Library

JOHNSON CITY – Johnson City Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program begins Monday, June 3 and runs through Sunday, July 28. All ages can pre-register for the program now atjcpl.org/summer-reading.

Summer Reading is an annual nationwide reading program. People of all ages spend two months reading as much as they can, tracking their progress, winning prizes and attending events at the library.

The goal of the program is simple: to encourage people to read during the summer. JCPL Director Julia Turpin says, "Our Summer Reading Program is a fantastic way to get people of all ages excited about reading during the summer months. Along with the reading challenge, we’ve got a really fun line-up of programs, activities and prizes throughout the summer."

The program is divided into age groups: preschoolers, school age kids, teens and adults. This year’s Summer Reading theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” so many of the reading challenge elements are adventure themed.
