BIG STONE GAP, Va.- The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park hosts its August “Lunch on the Lawn” summer music series Friday, Aug. 21, from 12 to 1 p.m., featuring Richard Phillips.
Phillips is an accomplished acoustic musician and singer?songwriter whose career spans decades and includes the release of 10 studio albums. Known for his skillful guitar work, Phillips has taught advanced guitar courses at Mountain Empire Community College. He also shares his expertise at MECC’s Mountain Music School, where he teaches intermediate guitar alongside fellow musician Roger Bullock.
His music weaves together elements of original compositions, blues, folk, countryand traditional styles. This diverse blend creates what he calls “Imaginary Music,” a sound that is both familiar and uniquely his own. Over the years, he has performed at numerous venues in his home region and across the country, appearing on stage throughout Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Indianaand Tennessee.
Park staff and volunteers have crafts and activities for children at each “Lunch on the Lawn” program.So, bring the whole family out, have some fun on the beautiful front lawn of the museum and enjoy an afternoon of home-grown music and entertainment on thelawn of the museum.
The “Lunch on the Lawn” event is free and open to the public. Participants must bring their own lunch.
