'The Cottage' is on stage

June 22–28, 2025 @ Lees-McRae College

BANNER ELK, N.C.— In a break from tradition, Lees-McRae Summer Theater, the college’s annual professional theaterseries, presents a new play, “The Cottage.” The show is the second of the 2025 season, and runs Sunday, June 22 through Saturday, June 28.

“The Cottage” follows two secret lovers who are meeting at their favorite cottage in the English countryside. They expect nothing but bliss in their hideaway, but soon their spouses begin to arrive, and a hilarious web of secrets starts to unravel.

“Lees-McRae Summer Theateris known for our excellent musical productions, and we’ve not presented a play in over a decade. After the difficult autumn the area faced, we knew we wanted to present something lighthearted and fun, and ‘The Cottage’was just perfect for us,” Gabriel Vanover, the show’s director, said. “This new comedy, which was a hit on Broadway a couple of seasons ago, is like ‘Downton Abbey’ meets ‘The Carol Burnett Show.’It’s fast-paced, hilarious, and even a little murderous. I know our audiences are going to fall in love with ‘The Cottage’just as fast as we have at Summer Theater!”

There will be three matinee performances of “The Cottage” at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 22; Wednesday, June 25; and Saturday, June 28. There will be three evening performances at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24; Thursday, June 26; and Friday, June 27. Tickets for all performances are on sale now.

“The Cottage” is not suitable for children.
