HollerHouse hosts printmaking exhibit

July 11–31, 2025 @ Hollerhouse

Over & Over & Over is a group exhibition of prints created by artists with ties to the Appalachian region curated by printmaker and educator Sage Perrott. The exhibit features artwork by 11 artists working in contemporary printmaking and use an array of traditional print processes to create their artworks.

There is a public reception Friday, July 11from 6-8 p.m. at 509 State Street across from the Paramount Theater. The reception is free and open to the public andincludes a live performance from Andrew Shumaker and complimentary refreshments.

The 11 included printmakers for “Over & Over & Over” have ties to the Appalachian region; having lived here, been born here, or currently work here. Printmaking, by definition, is a series of processes that require a matrix and ink and the possibility of producing multiples of an original. This matrix manifests as a wood block, metal plate, mesh screen, or stone – and more.

Printmaking exists as its own art form – producing imagery unique to the various processes used. Four major printmaking processes have been included in the show. Lithography, screenprint, relief, and intaglio are all represented. Additional techniques such as risograph and letterpress, who are siblings and cousins to the previously mentioned processes, are also featured. By selecting these particular works for the exhibit, the curator hopes to highlight a sampling of the impressive print artists produced by, nurtured by, or influenced by the Appalachian region.

Thematically, the works are connected not just by virtue of being prints, but also by relationships to plant life, animal lifeand nature, in some capacity.

The exhibition is on view the month of July at HollerHouse in Bristol, Virginia. A public reception will be held on Friday, July 11, from 6-8 p.m.
