Lunch on the Lawn features Hughes

September 8, 2024   |   2 pm @ Southwest Virginia Museum

The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park hosts its “Lunch on the Lawn” Music Series Sunday, Sept. 8, from 2-3 p.m., featuring local artist Tyler Hughes.

Hughes is an old-time musician and educator from Big Stone Gap in the mountains of SouthwestVirginia. He has traveled close to home and internationally playing banjo tunes and singing songs from the Virginia coalfields. He has appeared on NPR, PBS and WSM’s Grand Ole Opry. An advocate for passing on the region’s music to the next generation, he can often be found teaching banjo and square dancing at Mountain Empire Community College or at one of the many Junior Appalachian Musicians programs across the mountains.

Park staff and volunteers will have crafts and activities for children at each Lunch on the Lawn program.

Join us in the beautiful Victorian Garden and enjoy an hour of music underneath the shade trees and enjoy an afternoon of home-grown music, fun and entertainment on thelawn of the museum.

The “Lunch on the Lawn” event is free and open to the public. Participants should bring their own lunch. For more information, call the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park at 276-523-1322.
