Songwriters perform

A new songwriters’ group, Songwriters of Highlands Appalachia, holds free monthly concerts, called “Songwriters in the Round Concerts,” throughout the region. They also invite songwriters to join their free monthly meetings (sharing sessions).

Free concertin Novemberis heldat the Southwest Virginia Cultural Center and Marketplace in Abingdon Nov. 16. from 2-4 p.m.

Next year there will be free concertsat the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol, Virginia, from 2-5 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month, as well as shows occasionally at various venues, such as the Southwest Virginia Cultural Center and Marketplace, the Abingdon Arts Depot, and area public libraries.

Each concert will feature performances by four talented songwriters from the region.

Anyone is invited to the monthly meetings of the songwriters’ group.They meet the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. downstairs at the Southwest Virginia Cultural Center and Marketplace (formerly Heartwood) in Abingdon. Mary Munsey, the coordinator of the group says, “We share songs, ideas, and pick writing prompts for the next month.”
