The Historical Society of Washington County Virginia presents Thomas Jefferson, performed by the popular historical interpreter, Bill Barker, in a conversation with the Marquis de Lafayette, portrayed by Mark Schneider.
The conversation, lasting about 90 minutes, is held Sunday, April 14, and Monday, April 15 at 7 p.m. both days in the Martha Washington Inn Ballroom. The cost is $25, which can be purchased at the Historical Society Office, online, or at the door.
The conversation will focus on issues of their times in the early 1800s, but they will touch on issues relevant to today as well. The interpreters will not only spar with each other, but they will engage the audience as if they were on a trip to Abingdon and strolled into the Martha to converse with the local citizenry.
Adults may bring a student 12 years or under free of charge with the purchase of an adult ticket.
Bill Barker, who frequently has performed as Thomas Jefferson at Monticello, returns to Abingdon for the fifth year in this annual fundraiser for the Historical Society. Mark Schneider has portrayed Lafayette and other historical figures at Colonial Williamsburg. This year marks the 200th anniversary of Lafayette’s Grand Tour of the 24 states of his time.
