Martin Dotterweich
The Arts Alliance Mountain Empire, in cooperation with the Bristol Public Library, announces a new endeavor for the Mountain Empire region. The AAME Speakers Series features local and regional personalities sharing their expertise on topics that enrich and encourage the arts and general communities of our region.
This series also provides a forum for member organizations of AAME to tell of their contributions to the Mountain Empire region. The first event in the series, Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m., features Dr. Martin Dotterweich, associate professor of history at King University. Dotterweich's topic is "From Clay Tablet to Kindle: Book History in the Digital Age."
This past summer, Dotterweich spent four weeks in New York City for a National Endowment for the Humanities seminar, "Researching Early Modern Manuscripts and Printed Books." His presentation draws on that experience. Dotterweich received a bachelor's of art in literature and philosophy from Wheaton College, a master's of divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a doctorate in ecclesiastical history from the University of Edinburgh. He has taught on the faculty of King University since 2004. He has written and lectured extensively on topics related to his specialties: Scottish history, book history and the Reformation.
Each of the AAME Speakers Series events takes place at the Bristol Public Library, Bristol, Va. The second event in this year's series features Rick Rose of Barter Theatre, Thursday, March 20. His topic is "Community Building through Theatre and the Arts."
