There are many opportunities in the region to become involved in the arts.
In this issue, we primarily look at some of the opportunities for young musicians.
East Tennessee State University offers many opportunities, which you can learn more about in the stories about David KovÃ¡Ä and Matthew Potterton. They include string ensembles, a plethora of choirs, brass ensembles and more.
Outside of ETSU, Potterton directs the Voices of the Mountains, which provides musical opportunities for adults. When not teaching at ETSU, KovÃ¡Ä directs the Symphony of the Mountains Youth Orchestra, which gives young people a chance to explore symphonic music.
Amy Potterton works with the Choristers offered by the Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy. MECCA also offers a children’s choir and a youth ensemble.
Other activities for youth to become involved in the arts can be found in the youth and family section of the calendar.
