Katherine Huntoon is the Director of Exhibition Programming for the Visual Arts Center, Richmond, Va., and Curator of the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, Ocean Springs, Miss.
Katherine Huntoon has been selected as the juror for the 2009 Art in Public Places (AiPP) outdoor sculpture competition. AiPP is a project of Arts Alliance Mountain Empire, publisher of A! Magazine for the Arts.
As juror, Huntoon will choose sculptures to be exhibited in downtown Bristol, TN/VA from August 2009-August 2010. Huntoon is the Director of Exhibition Programming for the Visual Arts Center, Richmond, Va., and Curator of the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, Ocean Springs, Miss.
She recently served as gallery director, curator, visiting artist coordinator, and curator of collections for Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. While at this post, she has overseen the largest art donations in the institute's history and the construction of a $1.2 million, 8000-square-foot building that currently serves as an exhibition gallery, study room, and safe storage area for various art collections. Huntoon also oversaw a Lorraine Fink exhibition and an Ernest Mauer exhibition. The total revenue these two exhibitions generated was great enough to create an art department scholarship, as well as a private fund to benefit an ODU art student.
Huntoon has served the art community since the early 1990s, holding an array of positions including 14 separate appointments as juror, as well as curator, director, and administrator of various art institutions. She has written several articles for print work in addition to biographies for artists Raymond Coins, Henry Speller, Earl Simmons, and Sulton Rogers.
She is also a celebrated artist in her own right, having won scholarships and exhibition awards throughout her career.

"Given the quality of the entries we receive, each sculpture that makes it to the street level of Bristol is bound to be a hard choice." Happily, Huntoon seems up to the task.
