Bristol Ballet has big plans — for the spring and for its future. On May 14 at 2:30 p.m., Artistic Director Michele Plescia brings “Cinderella” to the stage to a sold-out house at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Bristol.
“Tickets went on sale in mid-February,” said Plescia. “We were surprised and thrilled that it sold out in April. Don’t despair, though. The Paramount staff will put you on a waiting list in case any seats become available. Just call the box office or email them. This is a wonderful service by Paramount, and we appreciate that they are giving people every opportunity to see our show,” Plescia continued.
The performance features all of Bristol Ballet’s students ages 4 and older, plus some guest artists. Teachers Beth Barnette and Amanda Hairston delight audiences with their hysterical antics as the Step Sisters, and Regina Rice dances the role of the Fairy Godmother. Olivia Ratliff, who teaches ballet and contemporary at Bristol Ballet, portrays Cinderella, and Jace Coranado returns from New York City after his appearance in the company’s 2021 ‘Nutcracker’ as Cinderella’s prince.
Moira Frazier Ostrander said, “It’s a lovely ballet with a familiar story, beautiful music and fun choreography that I think the audience will love.”
Staff and board members are busy planning “Raising the Barre,” the first in-person fundraiser for Bristol Ballet since December 2019. Planned for May 14 from 7-9 p.m., the event is a cocktail-type event at the ballet’s new location — 330 Buford Street, Bristol, Virginia. Attendees will be treated to a tour of the new building, light hors d’oeuvres and drinks, and will be able to view drawings of the plans for the renovation of the building. Entertainment is provided by the John Battle High School Jazz Band. This fundraiser helps with operating funds and capital campaign funds for the renovation of the newly purchased building. Tickets and more information are at www.bristolballet.org.
