The Bristol Music Club holds its annual Scholarship Benefit Fundraiser at Central Presbyterian Church, Bristol, Virginia, Saturday, Nov. 18. Refreshments are served from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. with fashions and musical performances to follow. Tickets are $20 and may be obtained from any member of The Bristol Music Club or at the door. The program, entitled "A Musical Tapestry," weaves together musical performances by past winners of the club's annual Scholarship Auditions, fashions from local stores, door prizes and a silent auction.
Donna Cox, owner of The Galleria, presents seasonal fashions modeled by members and friends of The Bristol Music Club. Suzanne Burleson from the Bristol Bridal Station at YWCA provides bridal fashions.
Performers for the event include the Highlands Youth Ensemble Cabaret Singers directed by Jane DeLoach Morison and scholarship winners Allen Feng, Katherine Ning and Natalie Lugo.
The Highlands Youth Ensemble Cabaret Singers, conducted by Morison, open the musical performances.
Morison holds a master's degree in performance studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a bachelor's degree in music education from East Tennessee State University. She has completed further studies at L'academie de musique de Sion in Switzerland.
The Bristol Music Club has awarded more than 390 scholarships since the program began 53 years ago. In the past two years alone, awards in the amount of $10,750 have been won by elementary, middle school and high school students. The scholarships are completely funded by patrons of the event, proceeds from the annual fundraiser and other contributions and memorial gifts.
