Mary Anne Snyder-Sowers has been distinguished as one of the leading achievers from around the country, in being selected to "Who's Who of American Women, 2007." She is one of 34,000 of the nation's most successful women in every significant field of endeavor - from leading corporate executives, to key political figures, to heads of professional organizations. Her biography will be published in the "Who's Who of American Women, 2007" publication.
Sowers was one of the founding members of the Editorial Committee for A! Magazine for the Arts. She teaches creative dance movement and ballet at Mountain View Elementary School in Johnson City, TN. She is the first dance specialist for the Johnson City School System and artistic director of the Mountain View Ballet Ensemble.
She serves on the Dance Grant Review Panel for the Tennessee Arts Commission and has lectured at conferences for the National Dance Educational Organization and the Southeastern Research Educational Organization.
Sowers received her Bachelor of Arts degree and Teacher's Certification in Dance Education from Virginia Intermont College, under the program directorship of the nationally reknown ballet teacher Ms. Constance Hardinge. She received her Masters of Education degree from Milligan College. Her research thesis was published by the Louisiana Research Journal.
She has had extensive dance training under some of America's finest dance teachers: Robert Joffrey, David Howard, and Robert Barnette, to name a few. As a principal dancer with the Bristol Ballet Company, she performed throughout the southeast. Prior to her teaching position with Johnson City Schools, she taught on the Virginia Intermont College dance faculty, and the Milligan College Summer Arts Camp faculty. She was Artistic Director of the Bristol Ballet Company, Director of the Hardinge Ballet Center, Evaluator and Board Member of the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association/Regional Dance America, Associate Member of the National Dance Association, National Dance Education Organization, AAHPERD, TAHPERD, NEA, TEA, and JCEA.
