Kingsport's Twilight Alive and Bluegrass on Broad are held on Broad Street.
Almost every town in the Tri-Cities has some type of summer music series. Many of them are held in downtown areas as part of revitalization effort. Others are held in park-like settings. All of them offer not only live music, but a chance to enjoy it with others. The concerts are free.
A wide variety of musical genres are represented. Groups may be local, regional or national.
Abingdon's Thursday Jams are held each Thursday night. The events showcase nationally recognized artists on stage at the Abingdon Market Pavilion starting in May and continuing through September. Bands performing in August and September are Chuck Prophet, Rosie Flores, Jason D. Williams, Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band, New Country Rehab, Chuck Mead and his Grassy Knoll Boys. An opening band begins at 6:30 p.m. and the headliner starts at 8 p.m. The event is free. Food and beverages are for sale. No coolers or outside alcohol allowed. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Bristol's has two ongoing summer music series: Border Bash and Full Moon Jam. Border Bash concerts are held on State Street in downtown Bristol on the first and third Friday of each month from May through August. Most of this year's bands will be seen again during the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in September.
This is the 14th year for Border Bash. Two concerts remain in the series Amber Rubarth Trio (Aug. 2) and St. Paul & The Broken Bones and Blair Crimmins & The Hookers (Aug. 16).
Full Moon Jam is held each Tuesday and Thursday beginning in May and going through September. The concerts begin at 7 p.m. and are held at the Downtown Center in Bristol, Tenn. Remaining concerts include a Rod Stewart tribute (Aug. 1), Holston Mountain Boys (Sept. 3), and a Bon Jovi Tribute (Sept. 5). Other concert genres include nostalgia, classic rock, blues, rock "n' roll, beach, country and bluegrass.
Kingsport, Tenn., holds two downtown music series during the summer Bluegrass on Broad and Twilight Alive. Both are held on Broad Street in downtown Kingsport. Twilight Alive is held on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. and Bluegrass on Broad is held Friday nights at 7 p.m. Remaining concerts include Orange Krush, The Catalinas, Mardi Grass, Benny Wilson Band and Sister Sparrow, among others.
Johnson City, Tenn., holds its music series on Thursday nights in the Goulding Amphitheatre next to the lake in Winged Deer Park. The concerts begin at 7 p.m. August and September performers include Wolf Creek, Borderline Band and the Johnson City Symphony.
The Summer Concert Series in Marion, Va., is tied to its monthly ArtWalk. Beginning at 8 p.m., the second Friday of each month, the concerts are held at the Farmer's Market from June through October. Remaining bands include Bluez Cruizers, Mercy Creek and Badunkafunk.
Northeast State Community College holds Hot Nights, Cool Music during the summer. The concert series features local, regional and nationally known artists bringing eclectic sounds of music to the stage. All shows are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., and are free and open to the public. August concerts include Samantha Gray and Rock-A-Bye Blue (Aug. 2) and Dale Jett and Hello Stranger (Aug. 10)
