McGlothlin Center for the Arts Welcomes Cantus Nov. 15
A nationally renowned all-male vocal group, Cantus performs Monday, Nov. 15, at the McGlothlin Center for the Arts at Emory & Henry College, Emory, Virginia.
Composed of eight men singing a capella, Cantus begins its performance at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedy~Reedy Theatre.
Cantus was created in 1995 when a group of college musicians decided to continue performing after graduating from St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Cantus is the only artist-led full-time vocal ensemble in the United States and is also the recipient of three Chorus America awards.
This group performs music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century. Their unique approach to creating music without a conductor, but instead, working together as chamber musicians, helps them tie different types of music together to create a distinct narrative.
The Washington Post has referred to Cantus’ sound as having both “exalting finesse” and “expressive power.”
The event is supported through a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
