KINGSPORT, TN -- High school senior Erica Dew has been invited to attend summer intensives with the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C., and Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as the University of Utah's undergraduate ballet program for fall 2010. Utah's ballet program is ranked #1 in the nation by Dance Magazine's 2010 review of post high school programs that prepare students for professional careers in dance.
Also at the Kirov Academy: Natalie Bohin, age 13, Raleigh Shelton, age 11, and Autumn Kilby, 10, have been admitted to the year-round program and to the 2010 summer intensive; andCourtney Cross, 10, has been accepted to the summer program on a partial scholarship.
Throughout the year these students take ballet classes four to six days a week.Kingsport Ballet Artistic Director Valeria Sinyavskaya, says, "Going away to quality programs is great for our dancers and for us. We aim for our young students to improve their skills among nationally acclaimed instructors and come back and share those gains with our community. We are proud of these dedicated students and are happy to send them out into the world of dance well-prepared."
