FRAG-o-ween is a unique Halloween art show

September 26, 2021

Fringe Art Group hosts its annual Halloween art show, the FRAG-o-ween Shockorama Art Party and burlesque show Saturday, Oct. 23 from 6-11 p.m. at the Model City Event Center in downtown Kingsport, Tennessee.

This is not a typical art show. While it’s free to attend and open to the public, the event is for ages 21 and over and a RSVP is required. With two floors and more than 40 artists, it’s one of the biggest art shows in the area.

There will be themed drinks, Halloween edibles, music, a costume contest with cash prizes, photo op stations and Halloween festivities galore.

As part of the evening, the Buxom Belles perform their new Halloween-themed burlesque show called “Captivating Creatures from the Belle Lagoon.”

“It’s an art show and Halloween party and burlesque show celebration unique to this area, with over 40 local and regional artists showing on two floors with a wide variety of styles and artworks. It’s eye-popping stuff. It’s really eclectic and unusual for the area with genres like pop culture, folk alternative, fandoms, crafts and traditional art as well. Our artists are at the top of their skills and collectors will definitely find unique treasures. Everyone has a great time mingling and browsing both floors of the event center. We encourage everyone to come in costume for the big costume contest with cash prizes. It’s definitely an evening of free fun and entertainment while supporting local art and artists,” says Marty Engle, FRAG member.

Works are in different mediums from wire sculptures to traditional oil paintings to digital work and more. Artists include Aleta Chandler, ceramics; Eric Cunningham, folk art; Mark Ray, digital art; and Russell Lawson, wire sculpture.

Engle, whose work is also available, says, “We are so excited to bring this show to life and display all the amazing visions our hard-working artists create. It’s a place to find the artwork that people will typically not find in traditional galleries.

The Fringe Art Group is a non-profit club for artists whose work doesn’t always fit into the mainstream art scene.

“We meet on a semi-regular basis to have life drawing groups and have a private Facebook group where we instruct and encourage each other and offer critiques of each other’s work,” said Engle.

Masks strongly recommended. There is a cash prize for best mask decoration

The show is free and open to the those ages 21 and over. To be admitted, party-goers should RSVP to the event on Facebook or email fragoweenshows@gmail.com to be put on the list.
