On Aug. 10, from 2-8 p.m. and Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Shady Oaks Garden Club presents “Viewpoints,” a free standard flower show. An array of exhibits will be of interest to plant lovers: 24 creative floral designs; 12 Botanical Arts craft exhibits; more than 100 flowering and non-blooming plants, identified with proper scientific names; and two educational exhibits. Everything in the show is created or grown by the members of the Shady Oaks Garden Club.
This event is at Atelier 133 and Fischman Gallery, Johnson City, Tennessee, a handicapped accessible location. Because of the gallery location, the show features exhibits with an artistic perspective. Each horticulture or design class has a name associated with art, “Monet’s Musings,” for example. In addition to the flower show, the gallery has works by artists Nancy Jane Earnest and Janice Snapp on display.
The show conforms to the standards established by National Garden Clubs, Inc., with certified judges awarding blue, red, yellow and honorable mention ribbons in each class or subclass. Judging is prior to the beginning of the show, so attendees are able to see which exhibits reached closest to the perfection desired.
