America's favorite holiday classic, "The Nutcracker" is brought to life on the new Woodrow W. McGlothlin Center for the Arts Stage, Emory, Va., by The Highlands Ballet Company. Joining Highlands Ballet Company are guest dancers from New York City, Carolina Ballet and Chattanooga, along with numerous local artists.
Kick off the joyous Christmas season with this holiday favorite that has charmed worldwide audiences for generations. Travel with the ballet company as heroic Clara is whisked away to the Land of Sweets by her Nutcracker Prince; but only after he and his soldiers take down the dastardly Mouse King and his legion of sinister mice in an epic battle. The magical journey continues as the scrumptious Sugar Plum Fairy, her dashing cavalier and other delightful characters from around the world greet Clara and her prince.
From the battle of the Mice and Soldiers to the swirling Land of Snow into the Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy, the ballet creates a fascinating dream world. The Nutcracker fills children with wonderment, and adults once again feel like children. A Land of the Sweets reception and Nutcracker boutique are held during intermission.
