JCCT hires new theatre manager

April 30, 2013

The Johnson City Community Theatre has appointed Thomas Townsend as theatre manager. Townsend will help facilitate ongoing operations at the theatre, such as box office and public relations, help set and maintain quality artistic integrity for JCCT's plays and musicals, and build community awareness and involvement. Now in its 101st Season, JCCT is Tennessee's longest continually running theatre. Performance dates and more information can be obtained by calling the theatre at 423-926-2542.

Sabra Hayden, president of JCCT, said, "Hiring Thomas is one of the best decisions JCCT has made in recent years. For a long time, JCCT has been run by a small but dedicated group of volunteers, and we decided the best way to bring JCCT to the forefront of the theatre community in the Tri-Cities area was to hire a theatre manager. Every community theatre goes through a cycle of growth and reduction, and we are definitely in a growth period. I look forward to working with Thomas and can't wait to see how much more we can grow."

Townsend is an Elizabethton native and familiar face to area audiences. "I am so happy to be a part of the growth at JCCT. I was in junior high when I was in my first musical there and though I have traveled a lot, I have found myself drawn to the place where it all began." Townsend, a graduate of Milligan College and ETSU Division of Theatre, has performed in theatre, television and film all over the United States, including Theatre IV in Richmond, Va., the Eugene O'Neil Theatre in New York, and Chicago Shakespeare Theatre.
