Kaelan Osbone thrives on dance

April 24, 2022

Kaelan Osborne has been studying ballet for 13 years. Only 3 when she began, she studied with the Ballet Arts Academy with Jo Rosser for two years and then began dancing with The Bristol Ballet for the past 11 years. She is a dedicated dancer who takes classes five days a week and is a member of Bristol Ballet’s senior company.

“What interests me most is how I can silently express myself through movement. Ballet is a very important part of my life as it has helped me grow in many ways. It is a way to disconnect from the outside world, and it helps me to stay in the moment and find peace,” Kaelan says.

She can be seen in May at The Paramount Center for the Arts, Bristol, Virginia, dancing the roles of the Autumn Fairy and Sunset in Bristol Ballet’s “Cinderella.”

Some of her favorite roles include Clara, Dew Drop, Snow Demi-soloist and Spanish Lead in “The Nutcracker”; a Raven in “Once Upon A Time”; and an Oz Citizen in “The Wizard of Oz.” Her favorite ballet to watch is “Pharoah’s Daughter.”

Her major influences are Michele Plescia, artistic director of The Bristol Ballet and her inspiring teacher, Skylar Brandt and Isabella Boylston of American Ballet Theatre, Natalia Osipova of The Royal Ballet, and all the teachers and dancers at The Bristol Ballet.

When she isn’t dancing, she enjoys watching ballets and contemporary dances, kickboxing, shadowing at an orthopedic clinic, baking, and spending time with family and friends.

Kaelan plans to continue to dance and hopes to pursue a career in sports medicine. She would also like to be a dance instructor. She is the 16-year-old daughter of Mark and Julie Osborne and is a 10th grader at Virginia High School.
