COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Erin Ginn, a native of Kingsport, was seen in the Columbia City Ballet's 2006 production of "Frankenstein."
As a new company member, Erin danced with a partner in the large corps de ballet pieces -- during the opening party scene, the peasant dances, and the final wedding scene, during which she and her partner led the processional.
The ballet celebrated the 75th anniversary of the 1931 classic film version starring Boris Karloff. The danced version stayed true to Mary Shelley's novel, published in 1818. Just as in the movie, the great special effects scene was the re-animation of the Monster. In the ballet, the scene includes period lab equipment and a wall of lab experiments onstage, as well as explosions and fireworks during the reanimation. The production utilized the talents of one of the largest groups of dancers in Company history: 42 dancers from around the world.
