Kingsport's Sculpture Walk III

August 25, 2009

Ten new sculptures have been installed along Broad and Main Streets in Kingsport, Tenn. Guided tours led by volunteers will be offered on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.

At the beginning of the Sculpture Walk is Hanna Jubran's "Sounds of the Elements," which "announces to all who enter the downtown area at Sullivan and Main Streets that Kingsport is a community that values art," says Roy Harmon, Chairman of Kingsport's Public Art Committee.

"Generous sponsors have made art a priority even during a difficult year and have provided this program with funding for artists' stipends. Without this support, the program would not exist," Harmon adds.

Sculpture Walk Curator Hank Foreman, Director and Chief Curator for the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts in Boone, N.C., visits Kingsport several times a year to speak publicly about art and its impact on the community.
