Knoxville Opera's Rossini Festival Italian Street Fair is a free, one-day celebration of Italian Opera, culture, and cuisine featuring all-day entertainment, fine handmade arts and crafts, children's activities, and a variety of tantalizing foods and beverages - most having a Mediterranean flavor. Knoxville Opera is currently seeking Artisan and Food Vendors for this year's event.
Since its inception in 2002, organizers intend for the event to have the tone of a sophisticated European-style street fair, projecting an image of quality and tastefulness appropriate for the entire family. Located downtown on the main street of Knoxville, Tennessee, the 2007 Street Fair takes place Saturday, May 5, 2007, from noon until 9 p.m. Downtown streets are closed to thru traffic transforming the main thoroughfare into a pedestrian mall and premier spring celebration.
Last year an estimated 40,000 people strolled along the street looking for fine handcrafted items ranging from jewelry, painting, pottery, rare books, recordings, metal works, stained glass, woodworking, mixed media, photography, and everything in between. With three stages of continuous entertainment and a variety of Italian and Mediterranean food, crowds stopped to enjoy and purchase a wide variety of arts displayed. The diversity of quality arts, entertainment and food provided something exciting for every taste. Knoxville Opera's Rossini Festival Italian Street Fair highlights a weekend celebration of opera performances and related events designed to celebrate the arts. The opera Carmen is scheduled for performances on May 4 and 6, 2007.
