Laken Bridges joined the William King Museum of Art, Abingdon, Virginia, as director of higher education in 2018. She was not only tasked with overseeing its new ArtLab, but also developing partnerships with schools, coordinating adult programs, teaching, managing resident artists, developing emerging artist residences – and creating her own artwork.
Prior to coming to Abingdon, she was an adjunct instructor at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee, where she taught drawing, color theory and two-dimensional design. At Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina, she taught relief printmaking, two-dimensional design and creative thinking for non-art majors.
She has also been a resident artist and visiting instructor at the University of Rio Grande, Rio Grande, Ohio, and was an instructor at Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in studio art at East Tennessee State University and a master’s degree in visual arts from Clemson University.
Her artwork has been exhibited at B-Side Gallery, Diane Kidd Gallery of Art, The Dalles Art Center, Turchin Center for Visual Arts, 5C Gallery, Western Illinois University, Northeast State Community College, Reece Museum of Art, Greer Museum and Slocumb Galleries and more.
