Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m. William Isom II, director of PBS project, “Black in Appalachia” speaks at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Abingdon, Virginia.
The 37th annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration and march is held Saturday,, Jan. 13 in Abingdon, Virginia. The march begins at 1:30 p.m. at Charles Wesley United Methodist Church. The celebration begins at 2 p.m. at Abingdon United Methodist Church.
Emory & Henry College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day Convocation is held Monday, Jan. 15 beginning at 9:30 a.m. The keynote speaker is Bettie Mae Fikes, the Voice of Selma, in the McGlothlin Center for the Arts, Emory, Virginia.
Bristol’s sixth annual Martin Luther King Day celebration begins Monday, Jan. 15 at 12:30 p.m., with a children and youth program at the Bristol YWCA, Bristol, Tennessee, and a march to the Bristol sign beginning at the YWCA at 1:30 p.m. After the march, a 2 p.m. program is held at First Baptist Church, Bristol, Virginia, featuring Tybre Faw, 16-year-old student activist and National Student Ambassador for the 400 Years of African American History Commission.
