William King Museum of Art in Abingdon, Virginia, announces a pledged gift of $500,000 from The McGlothlin Foundation, which will be paid over five years. James W. McGlothlin acknowledged “the museum’s tremendous growth and progress” in his intention that this gift be used to ensure the museum’s continuing commitment to top-quality exhibitions. The McGlothlin Foundation was funded by Woodrow W. McGlothlin in 1998. The Foundation offers its assistance to those who wish to maintain the beauty of their surroundings, improve the health of all peoples and prepare mankind to live in a more civil and peaceful environment, through aid to higher education, healthcare and the arts.

Betsy K. White, director, expressed the museum’s appreciation for this important gift that recognizes the museum’s longstanding priority of providing access to significant works of art. “Jim McGlothlin is a founding patron of our museum, providing gifts that established the museum’s first galleries during the 1990s and continuing his support over the years. We are deeply grateful for this new gift, the capstone of his generosity and endorsement of the museum’s role in the region. It will provide a sustaining foundation of support for our annual exhibition program.”

William King Museum of Art presents eight to 10 exhibitions annually. Through the generous support of The McGlothlin Foundation, WKMA can continue its mission to provide arts education to the public, exhibit fine art that is accessible for all and preserve the region’s cultural heritage. William King Museum of Art is open seven days a week with free admission for all. Visit williamkingmuseum.org or call (276) 628-5005 to learn more about exhibitions and programming.
