MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN -- Milligan College has awarded fine arts scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year to 23 incoming freshmen. Recipients were selected for the scholarship based on outstanding work through either audition or portfolio.
The college's fine arts major is designed to contribute to the development of the student's God-given talents by increasing their appreciation for and knowledge of human creativity. Fine arts majors may choose from four areas of emphasis: art, music, photography and theatre arts.
Recipients from the local area include:
* Caitlin Brock is the daughter of Glenn and Melissa Brock of Jonesborough, Tenn. She is a graduate of Daniel Boone High School and attends Crossroads Christian Church. Brock was awarded the scholarship based on outstanding vocal performance.
* Danielle Morin, also from Jonesborough, is the daughter of Paul and Theresa Morin. She is a graduate of University School and a member of Boone Trail Baptist Church. Morin also was awarded the scholarship based on outstanding vocal performance.
* Allison Jeffreys is the daughter of Jay and Shirley Jeffreys of Johnson City, Tenn. She is a graduate of University School and a member of Central Christian Church. Jeffreys was awarded the scholarship based on outstanding vocal performance.
* Peter Nelson, also of Johnson City, is the son of Russ and Barbara Nelson. He is a graduate of Science Hill High School and a member of First Christian Church. Nelson was awarded the scholarship for his outstanding photography skills.
* Dillon Whittington is the son of Dennis and Scarlett Whittington of Gray, Tenn. He is a graduate of Science Hill High School. Whittington was awarded the scholarship based on outstanding strings performance.
* Kimberly Woods is the daughter of Carl and Ann Woods of Bluff City, Tenn. She is a graduate of Sullivan East High School and attends Bunker Hill Christian Church. Woods was awarded the scholarship based on outstanding vocal performance.
* Kristen Love was awarded the scholarship based on outstanding vocal performance. She is the daughter of Shane and Jacqueline Love of Greenville and is a graduate of Greenville High School. Love also has taken classes at Walters State Community College and Mid-America Bible College.
* Michelle Moore is the daughter of Gregory Moore and Karen Lovell of Bulls Gap, Tenn. She is a graduate of Cherokee High School. Moore was awarded the scholarship based on outstanding photography skills.
* Amanda Templeton is the daughter of Richard Templeton and Robin Evans of Mount Carmel, Tenn. She is a graduate of Volunteer High School. Templeton was awarded the scholarship based on outstanding band performance.
