Milligan donates Concert proceeds to Ronald McDonald House

December 18, 2012

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. - The Milligan College music department donated $4,603, the proceeds of its Dec. 2 community Christmas concert, to the Southern Appalachian Ronald McDonald House in Johnson City, Tenn.

Dr. Kellie Brown, chair of Milligan's music department, presented the check to Rowena Bailey, executive director of Southern Appalachian Ronald McDonald House Charities Inc.

With a record number of people in attendance, Milligan's Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Memorial Chapel was full for the concert. The annual concert is free, but the college collects a suggested $5 donation to benefit a different organization each year. This year marked the most amount of money ever raised at a Milligan Christmas concert.

"The Christmas concert is a wonderful gift from Milligan to the community, and we are honored that Milligan and our community are so willing to support the Ronald McDonald House," Bailey said. "This money will go a long way to support the necessities of the families who stay with us."

The Ronald McDonald House provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children throughout the Southern Appalachian region. Located next to Johnson City Medical Center, the Ronald McDonald house has 14,000 square feet, including 10 bedrooms and private bathrooms. The space provides a safe haven for children and families of children, as well as a place where guests can find support from other families in similar circumstances.
