The National Endowment for the Arts announced awards totaling more than $27.6 million including an Art Works award of $40,000 to The Crooked Road to support the Mountains of Music Homecoming. NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, "The arts are part of our everyday lives – no matter who you are or where you live – they have the power to transform individuals, spark economic vibrancy in communities and transcend the boundaries across diverse sectors of society. Supporting projects like The Crooked Road's Mountains of Music Homecoming offers more opportunities to engage in the arts every day."
"The NEA has been a wonderful and longtime supporter of The Crooked Road," said Jack Hinshelwood, executive director. "The Folk and Traditional Arts division in particular supports art forms like the heritage music that The Crooked Road promotes in Southwest Virginia, so the NEA makes a great partner for us."
The 2016 Mountains of Music Homecoming presents Crooked Road concerts and cultural experiences in communities throughout Southwest Virginia for residents and visitors alike to enjoy. "We look forward to building on the success of the 2015 Mountains of Music Homecoming and continuing to create an event that provides attendees with a unique and unforgettable experience in Southwest Virginia," said Hinshelwood.
