JOHNSON CITY, TN – Dr. Ted Olson, a professor in the Department of Appalachian Studies at East Tennessee State University, was recently named the new poetry editor for Rapid River magazine.
Rapid River is a free monthly arts and culture periodical published in Canton, N.C., near Asheville. Approximately 37,000 copies of the magazine are distributed each month across western North Carolina. It is also viewable online at www.rapidrivermagazine.com.
Olson was selected as that periodical's poetry editor on the heels of the 2006 publication of a critically acclaimed collection of his poetry entitled Breathing in Darkness (2006, Wind Publications).

He is the longtime editor of the interdisciplinary cultural studies anthology CrossRoads: A Southern Culture Annual, published by Mercer University Press. The most recent volume of CrossRoads will be published in November.
