KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- The Gallery of Local Artists announces the sale of 25 works of art by local artists to Penn Virginia for its new building in the Meadowview section of Kingsport.
Paintings and photographs by several Kingsport artists were selected by architect Mark Freeman and Penn Virginia's Executive Vice-President Keith Horton to complete the decor of the new four-story building. Most of the pieces selected are landscapes of local scenery, including views at Bays Mountain, The Greenbelt and other familiar vistas.
Eleven paintings by Paul de Marrais, five by Anne Gurney Thwaites, and one each from Leslie Davis, Aurora Pope and Russell Blankenship, as well as seven photographs by Jeffrey Stoner, were purchased from The Gallery.
Patti Lawrence, owner of The Gallery, couldn't be happier. "This is a huge deal and a real boost for our artists and the local economy. There is a common misconception that we artists just want a place to show our work. Yeah, maybe when we were five years old! Now we are professional artists, and therefore, we have to sell our art to make a living."
