The Texas Review Press has undertaken a significant project over the last decade: publishing a poetry anthology for every state in the southern United States. In 2022 they published “The Southern Poetry Anthology: Volume IX: Virginia” which includes 106 poets, many represented by several poems.
The editors say, “Home of the first settlement in the United States and known as the Old Dominion and the Mother of Presidents, the state of Virginia’s artistic output proves among the most fecund in the nation.
“This collection includes well-known, established and celebrated poets such as Charles Wright, Claudia Emerson, Gregory Orr, Ellen Bryant Voig and Rita Dove, and the editors have dedicated equal focus on newer, diverse poets who continue to broaden and enrich the literary legacy of this beautiful state.”
Six poets represented in the anthology appear Sunday, April 23, at 3 p.m. at a “Sunday with Friends” literary event at the public library in Abingdon, Virginia. They are the ones who are showcased in this edition of A! Magazine. At the event, the anthology will be for sale, and there will be a reception at which attendees can meet the poets.
Also included in this issue are stories about various events and organizations for writers.
