KINGSPORT, TN -- Rostislov Dzabraev, 21, joined Kingsport Ballet in April 2007 as an artist in residence, to teach, perform and forge a new life. Dzabraev left St. Petersburg, Russia on Easter Sunday to travel to the U.S. where he now makes his home in Kingsport, Tenn.
Dzabraev received his training at the school named after Rudolf Nureyev and where the famed Nureyev began his career. Dzabraev has performed extensively with the Ufa Ballet and the Saint Petersburg Ballet Theatre of Marina Medvetskaya, and has toured throughout Russia, Finland, Canada, North America, Egypt and Bermuda. Dzabraev was an apprentice with the Kirov Ballet in St. Petersburg during his training.
He has received numerous awards at national and international dance competitions, including the Second International Festival of Moscow where he was awarded first place, and the Rudolph Nureyev Ballet Competition where he was a finalist. He is also winner of the Pearl Krima prize.
During his residence with Kingsport Ballet, Dzabraev will perform in productions and he will teach boys' classes, ballet and partnering and in the outreach program. Kingsport Ballet is pleased to be able to offer in-house partnering training for advanced area students, as well as provide an exemplary model to young men interested in receiving specialized ballet instruction.
