Sara Reese creates plaque for AAME Arts Achievement Awards

The plaque pictured on the front of this magazine was created especially for the Arts Alliance of the Mountain Empire's Arts Achievement Awards by Sara Reese.

Reese is a resident artist at The Arts Depot in Abingdon, Virginia. A founding member of the Cave House Craft Shop in Abingdon in the early 1970s, Reese took a pottery class and has been intrigued with clay ever since. She also studied pottery at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and theArrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Tennessee.

In 1978 she became a full-time potter.She has taught pottery in a wide variety of settings throughout our region - from kindergarten through the college level - through the Artists-in-Education Residencies sponsored in part by the Virginia Commission for the Arts.Sara Reese creates unique clay pieces including whimsical animals, heavily textured tiles, sculptural vessels and her popular nativity sets.

The stamped and textured tiles she created for these awards are personalized to reflect each winner's specific medium. We thank Reese for sharing her talents to honor her fellow artists.
