Sound of Music: What Former Students are Saying

November 30, 2010

Nakeesha Robinson, 21, joined the SWCC Community Chorus while a senior at Lebanon High School. She became a music major (vocal/general emphasis) at SWCC, where she says, "Dr. Trivette is a wonderful musician and teacher who has really built a strong program in such an unlikely place." She is now majoring in music at Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, Tenn. When she graduates, she will be certified to teach music to grades K-12.

Ryan Mullins, 23, from Rosedale, Va., is working on a B.A. in Percussion Performance/Education at East Tennessee State University. His major concentrations while at SWCC included jazz studies and percussion studies. He played percussion in the Jazz Big Band ad Jazz Combo for Christmas concerts and with the Children's Choir. He wants to become a Professor of Percussion at a university and to play drums in either a band or show setting or as an orchestral percussionist. He recalls, "I was able to travel to New York City and Canada to attend various jazz conventions and concerts. I was also able to study and learn from some of the best musicians from around the area and the United States. None of this would have been possible without Dr. Trivette, and I am grateful to this day for those opportunities."
