Students claim top honors at state film contest

JOHNSON CITY – Students from East Tennessee State University recently brought home numerous awards from the Tennessee Communication Association Student Film Contest.

Held in Dickson, the event included participants from 10 colleges and universities in Tennessee. Twenty-eight films were selected for the "Short Film Category," and the top three honors were presented to individuals affiliated with ETSU. Mike Fink, a recent graduate of ETSU's radio, television, video and film program, took first place for "Woe Unto the Fountains My Darling" and second place for "Carmel Macchiato." The third place winner was presented to Jami Bennett, also a recent ETSU graduate, and Jess Hillyer from the ETSU Department of Art and Design for "A Sound Discovery."

Shara Lange, who leads the RTVF program in ETSU's Department of Mass Communications, was the faculty mentor for these projects. "Woe Unto the Fountains My Darling" was also voted as the audience favorite.

In the "Commercial Category," ETSU digital media students Tate Johnson, Ally Schatzer and Shasta Bailey won first place for "Oreos," with Kaitlyn Nicely and Jeb Johnson, also students in the digital media program, taking second place honors for "Nike."

James Livingston, an assistant professor in ETSU's digital media program, was the faculty mentor for both projects in the commercial category.
